How Brulin Cleans Space Engine Components For Liquid Oxygen (LOX) Applications

In space exploration and hardware manufacturing, every component must meet stringent standards to ensure the success and safety of missions. When a renowned aerospace company approached us with the challenge of cleaning components for their space engines, our industrial parts cleaning advisors provided a solution that would exceed their expectations.

The customer required the removal of debris and hydrocarbon oils from the engine components. These contaminants had to be eliminated to meet the critically cleaned component requirements for liquid oxygen (LOX) applications.

Our Industrial Parts Cleaning Process Solution

To tackle this challenge, our parts cleaning team turned to AquaVantage® 1990 GD, our trusted aqueous detergent specifically formulated to remove debris and hydrocarbon oils from metal surfaces. With a concentration of 7% +/-, this aqueous detergent proved effective in dissolving hydrocarbon oils and lifting debris, leaving the engine components clean and ready for their missions.

To ensure optimal cleanliness, we utilized a Better Engineering cabinet washer, a reliable washer designed for precision parts cleaning. The engine components were carefully placed within the washer, where they underwent the precision cleaning process.

The temperature was set to a range of 145-155°F (63-68°C). At this temperature, AquaVantage® 1990 GD worked efficiently to remove the soils without compromising the integrity of any delicate engine components. The components were processed in the washer for a duration of 10-20 minutes, depending on the level of contamination and the specific requirements of each part.

Following the cleaning process, the components underwent a thorough rinse with deionized (DI) water at a temperature of 145-155°F (63-68°C) for 5-10 minutes. This final rinse ensured the removal of any residuals, leaving the engine components free from contaminants.

The Results

The space engine components were critically cleaned to meet the demanding requirements of LOX applications. By utilizing AquaVantage® 1990 GD in conjunction with the Better Engineering cabinet washer, we achieved a high level of cleanliness, ensuring the components are ready to perform flawlessly in the harsh environment of space.
