How Brulin Cleans Oils Off Fabricated & Machined Sheet Metal Components (Aerospace, Defense, Energy)

Across the demanding industries of aerospace, power generation, and defense, the fabrication and machining of industrial parts requires meticulous attention to cleanliness. One of our clients, a reputable provider of sheet metal fabrication and machined components, serves these industries by delivering high-quality parts for use in a variety of systems.

They approached our team of trusted parts cleaning advisors with a need to improve their in-process cleaning for aerospace parts made from aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and steel. These parts and components encountered multiple contaminants during their manufacturing process, including Mystik Jt6 HI-Temp Multi-Purpose Grease, Prodraw 722X Chlorinated wax/oil gel, Super Lithium EP Moly Grease, and Weld-Kleen 350.

The client’s manufacturing process requires rigorous cleaning of parts as they progress through various stages of production. To ensure product quality and compliance, it was essential to implement an effective and efficient in-process cleaning regimen. Our recommended process adjustments and the subsequent improvements achieved the results they were looking for.

Our Industrial Parts Cleaning Process Solution

First, we advised the use of AquaVantage® 3887 GD, our highly effective cleaning chemistry specifically designed for demanding applications. The team’s recommended concentration of 10% provided optimal cleaning power.

To maximize cleaning efficacy, we suggested a temperature range of 140°F – 150°F (60°C – 65.6°C) for the wash phase, ensuring efficient removal of contaminants. The wash time ranged from 1 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the parts.

For the rinse phase, we recommended using 120°F (48.9°C) deionized (DI) water for 5 minutes to achieve a spot-free finish. Subsequently, we advised drying the parts at 150°F (65.6°C) for 5 minutes, ensuring thorough drying and preventing any residual moisture.

The Results

This client chose Brulin’s team of trusted parts cleaning advisors as their preferred partner due to the superior cleaning capabilities of AquaVantage® 3887 GD and our dedicated support. The absence of foaming issues, combined with our comprehensive tank titration assistance, played a vital role in their decision.

Our recommended process adjustments extended the client’s tank life to approximately 8 weeks, providing long-term operational efficiency. We also provided extensive support, including tank titration assistance and guidance in replacing their air agitation with an eductor spray system to minimize foaming issues.

The implementation of these adjustments yielded exceptional results for the client. The AquaVantage® 3887 GD aqueous detergent delivered superior cleaning performance, eliminating the need for hand cleaning. The switch to DI water for the spot-free rinse improved the overall cleanliness of the parts.

Overall, the client experienced enhanced efficiency and productivity, along with reduced foaming issues, thanks to our continuous support and expert recommendations.

Through collaboration and expertise, we successfully enhanced the in-process cleaning process for our client in the aerospace, power generation, and military industries. We remain committed to providing innovative cleaning solutions and ongoing support to ensure our client’s continued success in delivering high-quality fabricated and machined components.
